Case Study, Sustainability, Goal 3: Good health and well-being
Hikma continues to play a major role in helping to alleviate drug shortages in the US. In the last two years, we have helped hospitals, doctors and patients by launching 15 products into shortage situations.

Good health and well-being
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Our purpose is to provide high-quality pharmaceutical products in an inclusive and affordable way. By emphasizing quality and accessibility, we ensure that our products benefit people around the world and contribute to health and wellbeing.
In 2018, US hospitals faced a critical shortage of injectable pain management medicines after a competitor experienced significant manufacturing disruption.
The shortage resulted in rationing of the medicines, which had a substantial impact on hospitals and at times resulted in surgeries being delayed.
In response, we significantly increased production of these products at our injectables facility in the US, adding production lines, recruiting additional staff and manufacturing around the clock. We also worked closely with the FDA and US Drug Enforcement Agency to ensure we had an adequate supply of raw materials.
